formation of an artist
the center panel abstracts the sociological construction of the artist
a blank slate:
we present a blank slate homunculus and a chaotic palette of identity markers. Users are free to add identity markers as they see fit.
architecting subjectivity:
the user drags and drops personal attributes, institutional affiliations (RISD, CalArts), religious traumas (catholic, agnostic), and emotional dispositions (melancholic, courageous) onto the body. This process visualizes the social construction of the artist as literal and tactile.
By treating "Yale MFA" or "loves Rothko" as modular components, the interface forces the user to confront the specific combination of biases that constitute a point of view.
But each attribute remains an aggregate: the model's impression of "catholic" or "RISD", not any individual's. This interface lets users confront that gap directly: adding more specificity, watching the output shift, and judging whether the piece functions as art.
